As AAPI month ends, I wanted to squeeze in one last recommendation!

Amy Tan’s The Bonesetter's Daughter is moving and beautifully written, as is everything by Tan. The novel tells the story of Ruth Young, her mother, and her grandmother. Ruth Young is a first generation Chinese-American who discovers her mothers secrets. By delving into her mother’s history, she learns to understand her mother as a woman outside the context of mother. Tan crafts three generations of strong women that are complex and messy but compelling. The difficulties and nuances of relationships between mother and daughter are captured expertly. Ruth and her mother’s relationship echoes that of her mother and her grandmother creating parallels between the two relationships. Tan captures universal truths of mothers and daughters and the unique difficulties of each role. I loved this novel and each section is beautifully written. Also, fun fact it was turned into an Opera by the San Francisco Opera! Clips can be found online. (Link to image)
