I’m back! After a much needed week off, I’ve got a book recommendation for y’all.

Recently, I finished Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library and was pleasantly surprised. To be honest, I chose this book because I really liked the cover art and it had a catchy title. I know they say never judge a book by its cover, but it worked out well for me. The Midnight Library follows Nora Seed who is struggling with depression and suicide as she enters into the midnight library which is specific to Nora and exists somewhere between life and death. In the library, the shelves are filled with books each containing a version of her life stemming from a different choice she could have made. Upon arrival, Nora is guided by a librarian from her past who tells her that she can jump into any book and assume the life it contains. Nora can only stay in the new life as long as she doesn’t feel disappointed, at which point she will return to the library. As Nora tries on the different lives, she begins working through her regrets and emotional baggage. From the beginning we can quickly deduce what the plot will look like and how it will end, but it is the in between that shone. I enjoyed reading about each of Nora’s possible lives and seeing her realize what is important to her. Matt Haig wrote a novel that is engaging and prompts reflection on the choices we make and how we handle regret. (Link to image)
