Wow, a full month of Mikayla’s Media Corner! I’m excited for this week’s recs and hope you enjoy them too.

I love Set it Up. It's funny, upbeat, and happy. I really enjoy Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell’s chemistry. They’re both very charming and play off each other well. Also, I loved watching Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs play the overbearing bosses being set up. Even as they are being hugely awful to their employees, Liu and Diggs bring humor and a certain level of likability to their characters. Set it Up is perfect if you are looking for a funny, kind of sappy rom-com for a Friday night in. (Link to image)

Song Exploder is a podcast that allows artists to dessert their work and how they created a specific song. Recent guests include: Glass Animals, HAIM, Billie Eilish, The 1975 Tame Impala, and Jon Batiste. Hearing how each artist creates is really interesting and provides a unique view into songs that I love. Personal favorites include Semisonic’s explanation of “Closing Time” and Maggie Rogers’s deconstruction of “Alaska.” This podcast has had a huge variety of artists as guests guaranteeing you’ll find a musician you enjoy. Duffy’s 2008 Rockferry album is a soulful rock fusion of 00’s nostalgia. A few weeks ago, Duffy popped up on my Spotify suggestions. Before this I had never listened to the album straight through, but as I listened I realized I knew a majority of these songs from various movie soundtracks and random playlists. Turns out I’ve been a Duffy fan without knowing it. Rockferry is a forgotten treasure of the 00’s. (Link to image)

Mina Le is a Youtube and Instagram creator that was recently recommended to me. I rarely watch Youtube creators (I’m a fiction gal through and through) but my friend finally wore me down and I watched Mina Le’s review of the fashion in Emily in Paris. One video led to two and before I knew what happened it was 4 am. Mina Le breaks down the fashion in movies and television series with a focus on historical pieces. Le is thoughtful in her reviews and I enjoy how she contextualizes fashion within the show itself and larger social issues. If you like Youtube videos about fashion check it out!
